Argumento:
Steins;Gate se sitúa en el verano de 2010 en Akihabara. Los escenarios del juego se basan en lugares reales de la zona, como el edificio de Radio Kaikan. Según Chiyomaru Shikura, quien dirigió la planificación, fue elegido por ser el lugar ideal para entusiastas de la invención que quieran adquirir componentes de hardware. La noción del tiempo, el viaje en el tiempo y la causalidad son temas recurrentes a lo largo de la historia, pues el protagonista viaja al pasado en numerosas ocasiones para llevar a cabo diferentes acciones en un intento de alterar lo que ha sucedido en el futuro.
